David Raigoza and Yesenia Avila, RN

Founders

The Giving Kitchen was co-founded by David Raigoza and Yesenia Avila, two community-driven individuals with a shared passion for service and compassion. David Raigoza, a beloved chef in Santa Paula, CA, was known not only for his culinary talent but for his generosity and deep commitment to his community. He was one of the original visionaries behind The Giving Kitchen. Before his passing on March 1, 2024, from cholangiocarcinoma, David helped lay the foundation for this nonprofit, believing strongly in its mission. His words continue to inspire our work: “If we could heal each other, imagine what we could do for others.” Yesenia Avila, co-founder and CFO, is a former Case Manager and Registered Nurse. She was moved to address food insecurity during the pandemic and shared this vision with David before his illness. Although her own health challenges have redirected her professional path, Yesenia remains dedicated to serving others through nonprofit work. A devoted single mother of three children with special needs, she continues to lead The Giving Kitchen with resilience and heart, honoring David’s legacy while building a better future for the community.
